Production I.G, an anime studio, announced on Tuesday that it will produce an anime film adaptation of Tsuchika Nishimura’s manga The Concierge at Hokkyoku Department Store that will be released this fall. The film will be directed by Yoshimi Itazu, known for his animation work on Popin Q, making his directorial debut on a feature anime film. Satomi Ooshima will pen the script, and Aniplex will distribute the film.


The Concierge at Hokkyoku Department Store manga focuses on a new concierge at a department store where all customers are animals. As a concierge, she evaluates her quirky customers and makes appropriate recommendations to them. The manga was written by Tsuchika Nishimura and published by Shogakukan in their Big Comic Zōkan magazine in November 2016. The manga concluded after two volumes in 2020 and won the Excellence Award at the Ministry of Cultural Affairs’ 25th Japan Media Arts Festival Awards in 2022.
Tsuchika Nishimura is one of thirteen featured artists in the Glacier Bay Books manga anthology of indie manga, Glaeolia 3, released in July 2022.
